The focus of the Equipment Working Group is to accelerate industry-wide progress in measuring and reducing embodied carbon in MEP and ICT equipment across the digital infrastructure supply chain. Our mission extends beyond carbon reduction to promote operational efficiency and circularity throughout the equipment lifecycle. We achieve this by developing industry case studies, comparing product footprint measurement methodologies, and delivering actionable guidance that empowers data center owners, operators, and equipment suppliers to drive meaningful decarbonization and resource optimization.

Includes prep and coordination of iCA webinars and workshops, in-person and virtual event planning, input on topics / speakers / etc.

The Materials Working Group (MWG) is dedicated to advancing the decarbonization of data center materials, with a focus on both building materials and those used in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. The group aims to identify best practices for life cycle assessments (LCAs) that align with corporate Scope 3 greenhouse gas accounting, benchmark the embodied carbon impacts of data center construction, and highlight key product categories where improved transparency and reduction efforts can have the greatest impact.

Additionally, the MWG supports the development and implementation of both materials-specific initiatives and the broader iMasons Climate Accord Maturity Model to drive industry-wide progress in reducing embodied carbon.

A maturity model is a framework for comparing a company’s facility maturity against industry best practices.

By introducing this Maturity Model, the iMasons Climate Accord codifies established best practices for decarbonization, or emissions reduction, in data center power, equipment, and materials, as set forth by our Governing Body and Working Groups and supported by our case studies.

The focus of the Power / Energy Working Group is to identify and articulate the impacts of increasing data center energy consumption, such as high electricity usage and energy waste due to factors like over-provisioning, in order to develop collaborative solutions to improve energy efficiency, reduce costs, and promote sustainable practices within the industry.

A water-focused Working Group plays a critical role in decarbonizing data centers and digital infrastructure by addressing the energy–water nexus in both design and operational processes. By optimizing water use in cooling systems and implementing advanced water treatment and reuse technologies, such a committee can significantly reduce process-related emissions and overall energy demand. It also drives innovation in low-water, high-efficiency cooling solutions, contributing to lower Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Integrating water stewardship with sustainability goals ensures resilient infrastructure that aligns with broader carbon reduction targets and regulatory expectations.
