Supply chain decarbonization in data centers is challenging due to limited visibility into upstream emissions, particularly for energy-intensive components like servers, semiconductors, and cooling equipment. Global, multi-tier suppliers often lack consistent emissions data or standardized reporting, making measurement and accountability difficult. In addition, cost pressures, long hardware lifecycles, and rapidly growing demand can conflict with efforts to source lower-carbon materials and manufacturing processes.
