The Role of Pilot Projects in Low-Carbon Data Center Development

Virtual Event
Friday, August 28, 2026 | 8:00 am 9:00 am PDT

Meaningful reductions in embodied carbon is central to the iMasons Climate Accord and to the data center industry. It requires moving promising low-carbon materials from experimentation into repeatable, real-world deployment. Pilot projects play a critical role in that transition by validating performance, constructability, cost, and schedule while building confidence across project teams.

This panel will explore perspectives from across the data center value chain for participants to understand: what makes pilots successful, what prevents proven solutions from scaling, and how the industry can turn lessons learned into stronger specifications, procurement pathways, supply chains, and shared practices. Drawing on findings and case studies from the iMasons Climate Accord whitepaper Piloting the Future, our discussion will highlight how pilots become a runway to broader adoption rather than a series of one-off experiments.

Panelists:
Sarah Martinez, Prime Data Centers
Mike Bahr, Turner Construction
Erika Winters-Downey, Clayco
Ryan Zizzo, Mantle Climate

Moderator: Christine Pries, Stack Infrastructure
